After having an amazing engagement session with Caroline and Alex, we were looking forward to their South Beach Miami wedding scheduled for Friday, October 7th…and then along came Hurricane Matthew. Their wedding was quickly rescheduled for the next day once the hurricane had passed, and the weather turned out absolutely perfect. They wanted their wedding to have a more simplistic, yet classy feel, with their colors being black, white, and gold. They first got ready at the Hilton Bentley Miami South Beach Hotel. Their ceremony was at St. Patrick Catholic Church and then we went to South Pointe Park for their portraits. After that we returned to the Hilton for their cocktail hour and reception.
About the Bride: Caroline, 32, born in Charlotte, North Carolina, but grew up in South Florida (Miramar). Works as a Actuarial Analyst for Bristol West Insurance and will be working for Farmers Insurance in Fall 2016. When not working, enjoys training in CrossFit and participates in local competitions.
About the Groom: Alex, 32, born and raised in Toronto, Ontario, Canada, moved out to Los Angeles in 2011. Works as a CPA for PriceWaterhouseCoopers. When not working, enjoys playing volleyball (beach and court), and other physical activities (i.e. hiking, training and running half marathons, obstacle course runs (e.g. ToughMudder)).
About the Couple: Been together since February 2011. The majority of our relationship has been long distance (LA/Miami), with many plane tickets spent visiting each other throughout the year, whether its a week long vacation (e.g. Maui, Hawaii, Palm Springs) or just a short/long weekend session just hanging around, we definitely try and make the most of each others presence when we’re together! Despite all of the challenges of being apart, we always found time for each other, whether it was google hangouts, phone calls, daily WhatsApp messaging, etc. technology has been a huge part of making our distance relationship work!
Their LOVE Story: I was living and working in Atlanta, GA at the time. Alex, a Toronto, Canada native, was stationed in Atlanta for several months on a work project for Turner Broadcasting. On his very last night in town, Alex went out with some work colleagues to celebrate the project’s completion. They were originally going out to a specific nightclub but changed plans at the last minute to go to a different one. Meanwhile, I decided to go out with my new next door neighbors to the same place which was venturing out from my usual group of friends and usual nightlife spots. These turned out to be very good decisions. Alex and I locked eyes across the room and there was an instant connection. He eventually made his way over to talk to me and we couldn’t leave each other’s sides for the rest of the night.
The next day, I showed him the last bits of Atlanta before he left for the airport to head back home to Toronto. I was sad because I could already feel there was something very special between us but I wasn’t sure if I’d ever get to see him again. I just couldn’t believe he was leaving already—we just met! A few weeks later, we were arranging trips to see each other again.
Shortly after, Alex moved to Los Angeles, CA and I moved back home to South Florida. The long distance was difficult especially since it was cross country. Several times on our trips to visit each other, we would find ourselves deliberately missing the return flight so that we could stay with each other just a little bit longer. I would always say our trips to see each other were never soon enough and never long enough. Alex reassured me that everything would work out and I knew in my heart it would.
The Proposal: After four and a half years of mostly long distance dating, Alex got down on one knee atop the CN Tower in Toronto. The location was meaningful since he took me there on my first visit to see him after meeting in Atlanta. I had no idea it was going to happen then and there. The tears started coming and I said yes! Afterwards, we went to catch up with some friends at a friend’s condo. They took us to the rooftop since the building had a beautiful view of the Toronto skyline and out popped all of Alex’s friends and family to congratulate us. Alex even reenacted the proposal for everyone to see!
What’s Next? Caroline will be making her work transition to LA in the next few weeks and then off to our next project… Planning our Honeymoon!
